Breathtaking natural moments in the Cova de Can Marca in the north of Ibiza

Among Ibiza's many advantages as a property location, the inspiring natural spaces play a significant role. However, it is not only the diverse landscapes and ecosystems near the coast that attract many house and apartment buyers; the mysterious underground cave systems also cast a spell over prospective buyers time and time again.

One of the most fascinating vaults is the Cova de Can Marca in the north of the island, which is a real excursion tip due to its considerable age and eventful history. Discover the Cova de Can Marca in Ibiza and find out more about the background to this unique natural phenomenon from your Engel & Völkers estate agents

More than 100,000 years of geological history can be found in the rocks of the Cova de Can Marca

The Cova de Can Marca is located in the bay of Port de Sant Miquel in the northern part of Ibiza, which can be reached by car in under an hour from anywhere on the island. The cave complex was formed naturally around 100,000 years ago and has developed impressive rock formations in the form of stalactites and stalagmites over the course of time due to calcareous dripping water. Due to its favourable location in the rocky slope of the bay, pirates and smugglers discovered the cave as a suitable hiding place several hundred years ago, before it was finally opened up as a public excursion destination in the 20th century. Today, additional light installations, artificial lakes with fluorescent water and majestic torrents make for a very special sight! The team at Engel & Völkers Ibiza will be happy to explain the best way to get to Cova de Can Marca from your new apartment or finca in Ibiza during your free property consultation.

Visit the Cova de Can Marca as a property buyer on Ibiza

From Port de Sant Miguel, the starting point of your excursion to the Cova de Can Marca, follow the path along the north-eastern shore for about 20 minutes to the entrance of the cave. As there are some inclines and declines to overcome here, you should expect a certain amount of effort, especially in summer, and take plenty of drinks with you. Sturdy shoes are also recommended for a visit to the cave not far from your new property in Ibiza. On the way, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean Sea and the rugged Ibizan coastline, which will definitely make for wonderful memories

Once at the cave, visitors are offered regular guided tours of the Cova de Can Marca, which last around forty minutes and are conducted in several languages. The excursion into the historic ‘pirate's nest’ is particularly entertaining for families with children. There are also sanitary facilities and a small restaurant with a wonderful view on site, so Engel & Völkers believes that you can expect an all-round successful excursion! If you would like to spend some time by the sea afterwards, for example, our estate agents would also like to recommend the recently published article on the hidden bays and beaches in Ibiza.
